NameChanger overview
NameChanger helps you rename a list of files quickly and easily. See the changes as you type. Change names by Replace First Occurrence, Replace Last Occurrence, Replace All, Wildcard, Prepend, Append, Character Removal, Case Changing, Regular Expressions, Sequence and Date. Advanced options for file extensions and selective renaming. Also contains an Image Browser for visual reordering of photos, integrated Quick Look and ability to save a rename for later use.

This is a "must have" app--it allows you to make changes to the name of files (I guess that's why they call it namechanger!), which is invaluable when you need to take a group of files and make a similar change to all. Suppose, for example, that you have a group of files named "Smith" and you now get a second "Smith", so you want to change the filename to "Smith, John". Drop the files you want to rename into the box, replace Smith with Smith, John and you are done. No problems in my 10 years of use. This is a great app. I was afraid it did not work in the newest version of the software. It does.

Great app - and of course it's free so you can't complain too much. Does exactly what it promises to do - I needed to delete the first 13 characters of a bunch of filenames and this allowed me to do it. It would be cool if you could have multiple actions apply so for example delete first 13 characters and also delete the last 5 characters - but that's not a major problem. Glad this solved my issues.
